Haynes 25/Alloy L605
W.Nr:2.4964
Short Description:
Haynes 25 is a cobalt-based alloy which combines good formability and excellent high-temperature properties. The high strength properties of this alloy may be obtained through cold work. It remains nonmagnetic in the work hardened condition.
This alloy is generally melted using vacuum induction melting (VIM), followed by electroslag remelting (ESR). The finished mill product is supplied in the solution- annealed or cold-worked condition, depending on section size and application.

Product Description
Haynes Alloy 25 is a solid solution strengthened cobalt-chromium-tungsten-ni alloy with excellent high-temperature strength and 2000°F oxidation resistance, as well as excellent resistance to vulcanization, abrasion and wear. L-605 / Alloy 25 has excellent forming properties, capable of forging, hot working, or cold working, although its work hardening rate is very rapid, so frequent intermediate annealing is recommended for complex forming operations. Haynes 25 welding uses gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, protective metal arc, electron beam and resistance welding. Submerged arc welding is not recommended. A similar composition wire (AMS 5796) or coated electrode (AMS 5797) is used. Alloy L-605 / Alloy 25 is heat-treated in solution in the range of 2150-2250°F with rapid air or water quenching for best performance. When exposed at moderate temperatures for long periods of time, Haynes 25 exhibits the same room-temperature ductility loss as other superalloys, such as Alloy X or Alloy 625. Due to its long and extensive use, this alloy has been the subject of much research to determine its performance under a wide range of conditions, thus making it a very good characterization material, alloy L-605 has many applications in military and commercial gas turbine engine components such as rings, blades, and combustion chamber components, although for many modern engines, It has been largely replaced by alloy 188 or alloy 230. Haynes 25 welding uses gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, protective metal arc, electron beam and resistance welding. Submerged arc welding is not recommended.
Haynes Alloy 25 is a cobalt-based, precipitation-hardenable superalloy that is known for its high strength, corrosion resistance, and oxidation resistance. It is often used in applications where high temperature resistance is required, such as in combustion chambers, exhaust systems, and heat exchangers.
