Short Description:

Austenitic superalloy A286 can be hardened and strengthened by heat treatment and is used for applications at temperatures up to 1300° F. A286 stainless can also be used for lower stress applications at higher temperatures.

Product Description

INCOLOY alloy A-286 is an iron-nickel-chromium alloy with additions of molybdenum and titanium. It is agehardenable for high mechanical properties. The alloy maintains good strength and oxidation resistance at temperatures up to about 1300°F (700°C). The alloy is austenitic in all metallurgical conditions. The high strength and excellent fabrication characteristics of INCOLOY alloy A-286 make the alloy useful for various components of aircraft and industrial gas turbines. It is also used for fastener applications in automotive engine and manifold components subject to high levels of heat and stress and in the offshore oil and gas industry.

Grade 660A refers to a specific alloy material called Inconel 660A. Inconel Grade 660A is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-chromium-iron alloy with excellent mechanical properties at high temperatures. It belongs to the Inconel family of superalloys, which are known for their high strength, corrosion resistance, and good creep and rupture strength.

The alloy composition typically includes approximately 24% nickel, 19% chromium, 2.5% aluminum, 1.5% titanium, 1% silicon, and small amounts of other elements. The addition of aluminum and titanium provides precipitation hardening capability, which improves the alloy’s strength and stability at elevated temperatures.

Inconel Grade 660A is commonly used in applications that require high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, such as gas turbine engine components, high-temperature fasteners, springs, and high-strength bolting. It is well-suited for applications in aerospace, power generation, and other industries where materials are subjected to extreme temperatures, high mechanical stresses, and corrosive environments.

Features of alloy material Grade 660A

Grade 660A, also known as Inconel 660A or Alloy 660A, possesses several notable features due to its specific composition and heat treatment. Here are some key features of this alloy material:

  • High Temperature Strength: Inconel 660A exhibits excellent strength at high temperatures. It maintains its mechanical properties and can withstand prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures without significant loss in strength.

In the realm of metallurgy, the quest for materials that embody strength, durability, and versatility is unending. Among the alloys that stand out is Grade 660A stainless steel—a high-strength, heat-resistant material that finds its place in a wide range of industrial applications. This article delves into the intricate details of Inconel 660A stainless steel, exploring its composition, mechanical properties, applications, and the factors that contribute to its reputation as a robust and reliable material in demanding environments.

Understanding Grade 660A Stainless Steel:

Grade 660A, also known as A286, is a precipitation-hardening austenitic stainless steel. It is characterized by its high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and exceptional heat resistance. The composition of Inconel 660A typically includes elements such as iron (Fe), nickel (Ni), chromium (Cr), and titanium (Ti), among others. The careful combination of these elements results in an alloy that exhibits remarkable mechanical and thermal properties, making it well-suited for applications in extreme conditions.

Mechanical Properties and Heat Resistance:

One of the defining features of Inconel 660A stainless steel is its impressive mechanical strength, which is achieved through a combination of precipitation hardening and solid solution strengthening mechanisms. This allows Grade 660A to maintain its integrity even at high temperatures, making it an ideal candidate for applications that require both strength and resistance to thermal stress.

Inconel 660A stainless steel retains its mechanical properties at temperatures exceeding 700°C (1300°F), which makes it suitable for applications in environments where conventional stainless steels would experience significant loss of strength. This exceptional heat resistance makes Grade 660A a valuable material for industries such as aerospace, automotive, and power generation.

Corrosion Resistance and Versatility:

In addition to its mechanical and heat-resistant properties, Inconel 660A stainless steel boasts excellent corrosion resistance. This resistance extends to both atmospheric and aqueous environments, allowing the material to retain its integrity in the presence of moisture, chemicals, and corrosive agents. This versatility in the face of various environments makes Grade 660A stainless steel an attractive choice for applications where corrosion resistance is paramount.

Applications in Challenging Environments:

Grade 660A stainless steel finds its applications across a diverse range of industries, particularly in environments where extreme conditions prevail. Some notable applications include:

  1. Aerospace and Aviation: In the aerospace industry, Inconel 660A stainless steel is used for manufacturing components such as turbine blades, exhaust systems, and fasteners. Its combination of strength and heat resistance ensures reliable performance in jet engines and other aircraft components exposed to high temperatures.
