Invar 42 (4J42)
W.Nr:1.3917
Short Description:
A binary nickel-iron containing around 41% nickel, this grade exhibits a low and normally consistent coefficient of thermal expansion over the range 20-300oC. This enables its use in glass-to-metal or ceramic-to-metal sealing applications and in tooling for aerospace composites.

Product Description
The Invar 42 has excellent controlled expansion quality and is primarily intended for controlled expansion and magnetic applications. Invar 42® is also very effective in magnetic applications. It can be hot formed, cold formed or machined. Nilo 42 has many of the properties of other Invar alloys. It is effective at extreme temperatures ranging from -32℃ to 275C,The Invar 42’s coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) is close to zero. This beneficial quality makes Nilo 42 one of the most effective alloys for manufacturing precision instruments. Invar 42 is widely considered to be the metal of choice for many glass-to-metal seal applications.
